Sailing scenes on the River Blackwater, including the East Coast Old Gaffers' Race.

Very little happens in this film; that's its beauty. The opening shots show sailing boats on the water at Wivenhoe. There are shots back towards the town, showing boats moored a the Quay. A panning shot along the Quay shows Ian Brown, Ltd. boat builders. A group watch the launching of a gaff rigg. The greater part of the film shows the East Coast Old Gaffers' Race, on the Blackwater from Maldon. On a misty day, people watch from the beach. There are scenes of crews at work. Some of the gaffs featured include Band Of Hope, built in 1881 at Harwich and Henriette. There are shots of the fleet out at sea and the rest of the film shows sailing scenes. Maurice Bailey explains why he sails a gaff. The boats return to Maldon. There are some scenes shot from a boat, including two boatmen in a rowing boat.
