Food production during post war rationing.

The film shows the correct method of cultivating potatoes, beginning with preliminary cultivation. Correct and incorrect types of ridge are shown along with the correct plough setting for depth, pitch and the spread of the mouldboards. The tractor drawn plough is shown in slow motion. The correct adjustments are shown, being made by a land girl who is driving the tractor. Part two demonstrates how to turn a standard and a general purpose tractor on headland. A Fordson Standard tractor with trailed ridge plough and a Ferguson mounted ridge plough demonstrate the correct and incorrect way of ridging potatoes. A diagram shows the field layout. The correct shape of the mound and the position of it over the potato is shown. The right and wrong ways of joining a mound are shown. Various types of toolbars are shown.
