Seaside scenes at Thorpeness including a regatta.
The film begins with a shot of a projector being switched on and turned to face the camera. The first shots set the scene for the film. There is a shot of a smock mill in operation and a shot of the river and of reeds with people punting. A short series shows Lakeside Avenue, a Private Road. There are a few cars parked and there is a close up of a mock Tudor-style house. On the beach there are fishing boats and people in the sea. A man goes swimming and dives from a platform. He is cheered by a Thorpeness boatman, and acknowledges the cheers. There are shots of sailing on Thorpeness Mere. This shows a shot of the competitors running through the village and around the Mere. They get into rowing boats for the next phase. This is a long sequence showing scenes of sailing from the Regatta on Thorpeness Mere. There are many sailing scenes. The film concentrates on the junior sailors. There are shots of a boatman rowing and of a man taking a photograph. There are two incidents where a boat has to be baled out. In one, the boat is pushed back, revealing the water to be no more than thigh high. There is a rowing race and a race into the water to collect balloons released from a raft. The sailors collect their prizes and speeches are given. There are shots of a gymkana and then back on the Mere, a shot of a very moody sky. The final shots are taken at night from a moving car. The film was made by Richard Arnell also known as Tony Arnell, the musical composer 1917 - 2009.
