A brief history of fire-fighting and the opening of the new fire station at Mundesley.

Footage of a fire accompanied by sounds of a siren. There is a still of the old fire brigade building in Back Street which as the fire station until 1967. This is contrasted with a colour shot of the new station built for the Norfolk Fire Service in 1967. Mr. Haden, speaking at the opening of the new station, recalls memories of the Mundesley Fire Brigade, including a horse drawn fire pump. There is an animated illustration of this at work. The next sequence shows black and white film of the 1939 fire pump on an exercise, discharging hoses into a river. There are colour shots of a trailer pump operated by the fire crew. The commentary explains that the output of this pump often exceeded the water supply. The fire-fighters draw water from a pond and then discharge their hoses. The third sequence shows the opening ceremony of the new station in 1967. More of the opening speech from Mr. Haden. Mr. Reynolds, a fire-fighter in Mundesley for 41 years, performs the opening ceremony. The machine, c. 1965, leaves the station and embarks on a practice drill. The fire-fighters drain and dry their hoses, laving the hanging from the tower. The film shows the modern machine backing out of the fire station to check equipment and then shows it on another practice drill, driving through the streets of Mundesley.
