[Royal Eagle Paddle Steamer]

1950 , Margate (Kent)

The Royal Eagle paddle steamer at Margate.

Margate Pier. Crowds waiting for the paddle steamer. This shot is filmed from the steamer itself. A line is thrown and then a smaller motor boat sets off from the pier. The next shot shows the paddle steamer en route. There are close up shots of passengers, including children. The name of the steamer, `Royal Eagle' is shown. Inside, a party sits down for a meal. There are shots of a girl with binoculars and of a platform in the open sea. This may be a remnant from World War II. On board, there is a shot of a man steering the boat and scenes from below deck, including a brief shot of the kitchen. The final shots show the shadow of the steamer moving over the open waves and a shot of the steamer in the open sea.
