Children from the East End of London, possibly Stratford, receive presents from Father Chistmas.

A crowd of children gathered in a street, waving to the camera. As the camera pans the line, we can see that some of the children are walking with the aid of two sticks or crutches. They receive presents in the group from a man dressed as Father Christmas and from two other men. A Vicar is also present.

Background Information

The Vicar in this film also appears in the film `Theydon Bois, Essex. Sunday School Outing. 1916' Part of a small collection of 35mm films, found in an empty Essex house without any explanatory information. Their content reveals that they relate to the Baptist church community of Poplar and Bromley Tabernacle, London where the Reverend Alfred Tildesley was an enthusiastic early adopter of the cinematograph. For more than 17 years he organised Thursday evening film shows, and is known to have arranged for films to be made of the Tabernacle activities. See Dean R.
