A street party to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of HM Queen Elizabeth II in Central Road, a late Victorian or Edwardian terraced street in Leiston, Suffolk in 1977
The street is bedecked with flags and tables are laid out for a children's party. Children in fancy hats are served by adults, some of who are in fancy dress. There are close up shots of some of the children eating. The Jubilee Carnival Queen and her entourage arrive. There are further shots of the party, shots of children playing and a close up shot of a little girl. The children play games, including ring-o-ring-o-roses and pass the parcel. Older people sit and drink tea and there are further games. The next scenes are of sequences from an evening entertainment. The first shows women doing a can-can routine. The second shows very little girls in very short dresses performing a routine that includes dolls and cuddly toys. The third shows pre-pubescent girls in Hawaiian skits seemingly performing scenes from South Pacific. This concludes with a wedding between a native girl and a sailor. There are shots of a flamingo park before further scenes of the street party. A woman is wearing a silver jubilee tee-shirt. There is a shot of the street as the party concludes towards the end of the day. The final shots are of the flamingo park.
