Her Majesty the Queen opens the maternity wing of the West Norfolk and Kings Lynn General hospital

The film begins with overhead shots of the crowd waiting in the courtyard of the West Norfolk And King's Lynn General Hospital. At ground level officials, guests and nurses await the arrival of Her Majesty. The Queen arrives by car and is greeted by officials, including The Rt. Rev. Percy Herbert, Bishop of Norwich. Accompanied by Sir Stephen Lycett-Green, Chairman of the King's Lynn Hospitals Management Committee, Her Majesty inspects a guard of honour of nurses, several of whom are West African. Miss Lydia Green presents Her Majesty with a bouquet of flowers. A service of Dedication is led by the Bishop of Norwich. Her Majesty enters the new wing, unlocking the door with a silver gilt key. J.O. Harrison, the obstetrician and gynaecologist speaks to the camera, explaining about the projects and some of the equipment, including a wireless available in every room and a microphone system for mothers to call for nurses, stating that it is only the second maternity ward in the country to have this. Interior scenes show the wing, generally empty but with a nurse attending a special care baby. Her Majesty leaves the building, talking informally to officials, nurses and guests as she leaves. Her car departs to cheers from the crowd.
