The Longshore Herring Festival and Fun Day of 1992
People gathered for the Blessing Of The Herring service on Hemsby beach. The actual sound that accompanies this film records the prayer said by a vicar from a fishing boat. A leaflet shown to the camera reads: Longshore Herring Festival And Fun Day, Hemsby Beach, Sunday 6th September, 1992.10.00am - 4.00pm. There is a shot of a fishing boat, including film of herrings in boxes on the boat. A shot of Miss Yarmouth Mercury reveals a very chilly looking young lady. Most people are wearing anoraks. There is a demonstration of gutting herring, a fun thing for a fun day, and shots of the fast food stalls and people eating burgers. People and dogs swim in the sea. The rest of the film shows shots of Hemsby. Many of these shots are of exterior and interior scenes from amusement arcades. There are some fairground shots. A group of majorettes marches along the road. There are scenes from a Sunday market. The actual sound records the sales patter of the market traders. There are exterior and interior scenes of a cafe as well as shots of fast food stalls and a fish and chip shop.
