The effects of alcohol on the body and on society.
Scenes inside a disco. These show people dancing and drinking alcohol. There are shots of the bar. The commentary calls alcohol a 'drug.' Colour stills show alcohol in use through the ages from primitive man who discovered alcohol in rotting fruit. There is a shot of modern drinks placed on a tray. The film shows individual drinks being poured and captions show the alcoholic content of each. A shot of a barman shaking a cocktail and of scenes of the interior of a public house, of a Christmas party and of a wedding reception. All of these show people drinking. A cartoon sequence shows how alcohol works on the body, being absorbed into the bloodstream and then to the brain and nervous system. Relating alcohol consumption to body mass, the film shows why young people are affected more.There are scenes shot of a party. These show people drinking through the evening and how the drink affects their co-ordination and behaviour. Several people fall asleep. The medium term effects of alcohol are considered. At breakfast the next morning a man suffers from a hangover. A young man riding a motor cycle and a man driving a car illustrate further dangers. The film, shows the driver's blurred vision through the windscreen until he crashes into a tree. There is a montage showing several smashed cars before a shot of a police officer giving a motorist a breath test. There are scenes of an alcohol counselling meeting.The film ends with a sequence of shots re-capping what has happened in the film. It ends with a series of sepia stills that show images of alcohol and alcohol abuse.
