The film begins with shots of the village centre and the public house. There is a shot of the village post office. A still shows the village covered in snow and the river frozen. A still of a map, drawn before enclosure, shows the three field system. In mute shots, this is explained by an elderly gentleman, who then accompanies Jean Goodman around the village. There are shots of the village centre, including a conical tiled building. In the village the man talks of a village flood and of how the river has disappeared. There are shots of the dry river bed. He explains that this upsets the weekenders, who came to the village because of the river flowing through the middle. There is a shot of the village sign and of a windmill, with sails. Outside a flint cottage, a man is at work. There is a shot over some trees of a country house. A closer shot shows a couple walking down the front steps accompanied by several dogs, ranging from Great Danes to Yorkshire Terriers. There is a shot of St. Mary's Church. Spelt out in the flint are the words, Anno Domini 1625. There is a shot of Jean Goodman with some of the dogs, looking apprehensive. The final shot is across the fields to the mill.
