The opening scene is of the road outside Ongar Station. There is a shot of the sign for the London Underground and a shot of the station before a shot of an underground train pulling away from the platform. Scenes from a moving car show the streets entering Chipping Ongar, including a house painter at work. Fixed camera positions show street scenes. There are interior shots of a newsagents and a focus on the headlines of the morning papers. There is a shot of an advertisement for the Epping Forest District Local Plan. There is a shot of staff waiting outside Barclays Bank and other town scenes. The manager unlocks and enters Everyday shoes. There are interior shots of a bakers, of the post office and shots of the window display and interior shots of Hockings the Butchers. A traffic warden helps a motorist out of a parking space and talks to a passer by. There are interior shots from the footwear shop and of the interior of Dominos dress shop. A car fills up with petrol at a garage and there are scenes from inside the workshop. A girl shows the camera her home. There is a shot of cottages with hollyhocks growing outside. At the Fire Station, firemen wash the engine. There are interior shots of the office and then of firemen sliding down the pole. The fire engine leaves the station. There are shots of a playgroup in a community centre. The film shows housing from different eras. There are shots of Fairfield Road, a 1950s housing estate, of Shackletons, a 1970s estate and of new housing on Stanley Place. There are shots of children arriving at Chipping Ongar County Primary School. The final scenes are of a garden party for the St. Clare's Hospice.
