Modern and traditional harvest methods in Topcroft, Norfolk.
A mix of modern and traditional farming methods are shown during the summer harvest at a farm in Topcroft, Norfolk. Hay is cut, stacked and baled by hand, or with a horse-drawn mower/baler. Grain crops are cut with a scythe and with horse-drawn mowers and harvesters. Fields are furrowed manually or ploughed by horse or petrol-driven tractor. Blades are sharpened to cut various crops, with grain and root vegetable crops harvested by hand. The laborious process of sheep dipping is also shown, as well as the herding of sheep and lambs. As work continues in the fields, the cut grain crops are fed into a large steam-driven combine harvester which sorts the hay and chaff from the valuable grain.
