Television documentary on coastal pollution at Great Yarmouth, Pakefield, Blackpool and Seaham.

Holidaymakers are on the beach at Yarmouth and there are cruisers on the Yare and the Broads. A sewer outfall in the river near Yarmouth signals concerns about pollution. A diver talks about an infection caught following work in the river. There are other outfalls with sewage floating in the water. Following a fairground sequence, George Scott, hotelier, former mayor and chairman of the Holiday Association talks about the quality of the sea water. A diver talks of the filth that is to be found just off the beach. Dr Malcolm Watts says that some holiday makers' illnesses are caused by swimming in the sea. Dr David Kay, an environmental scientist describes the problem further. The next section of the programme deals with pollution at Blackpool. William Waldegrave, Minister for the Environment is interviewed. At Pakefield, just below Lowestoft, the sea is free of pollution but is threatened by chemical waste seepage from Gisleham pit. Greenpeace takes samples of toxic waste and residents Jim and Janet Butchart of the Waveney Action Group, talk about uncertainty of the dangers as the waste seeps nearer to the beach. Paul Tabiner, Waveney County Council's Environmental Health Officer, talks about the problem. The film moves to the Durham coast where coal waste is dumped in the sea. At Seaham, lorries empty slurry which eventually finds its way onto the beach and into the sea. Beachcombers are seen collecting waste coal from the tide line. Various interviews follow for and against the pollution problem.
