This affectionate record of a family pet depicts Sparta the dog enjoying typical doggy activities and, more unusually, his own birthday party.

Sparta the dog is both indoors and outdoors with the family. There is a short sequence of a man tanning a hide and a young blackbird eating worms. Back to the dog, and Sparta is swimming in dykes, digging holes and visiting the veterinary surgery. Finally, Sparta watches three candles being lit to celebrate his third birthday.
