In this typical school day at the end of the 1940s, the documentary follows the activities of the pupils at Walton County Secondary School.

First, views of the seafront at Walton-on-the-Naze then, children arrive at Walton County Secondary School. In the the school office a typist is at work. The headmaster, Mr. L.R Landsdowne addresses the whole school at assembly. Football training takes place in the gym, followed by a maths lesson. During break, children play and drink milk. An English compositon class, then a history lesson, followed by the lunch break. Hot food is served. After lunch the children attend a dancing class, a chemistry lesson and a biology class. In home economics, the girls learn domestic and baby handling skills. Other activities include embroidery, weaving, knitting and sewing. Boys learn to cook. A woodwork class includes girls, and there are metalwork, gardening and geography classes. Pupils play football, netball and hockey. There are reports from the school magazine. After scenes of model making and art classes, there is puppet making and a performance. The drama class performs a mime, a play and a radio play. Some infants represent a class of a class of the future. As they enter the secondary school, two older pupils leave. The film ends with views of the school and sea front.

Background Information

In David Cleveland's book, 'Films Were Made Volume 1', he states that the original film had a separate sound track on quarter inch audio tape which has been transferred to 16mm for running in conjunction with the film.
