Documentary tracing the building and opening of the Springfields Centre, whose gardens are the focus of a spectacular display of flowers.

The Earl of Lancaster, Lord Lieutenant of Lincolnshire, meets the Dutch designer who supervised the centre's construction. The Earl opens the centre in April 1966. The centre starts out as a ploughed field. The ground is levelled and holes dug for the lake and sunken garden. Roads are made, trees and shrubs arrive and are planted. Local school children tour the site in winter snow. The children plant a tree and help with the work. In springtime, the walkways are prepared and the lake is lined, autumn grass is sown by hand. Greenhouses are completed, the prefabricated restaurant and souvenir shop are constructed and opened. Bulbs are planted and the beds covered with plastic to give protection from the weather. Roads are surfaced, painting and other odd jobs are completed. At the opening, people walk round the beds and greenhouses looking at the wonderful displays of flowers.
