Documentary about a day in the life of Southend Airport; from the running of the terminal and its facilities to the passenger and air traffic passing through.

The day begins at Southend Airport: people arrive, a Vickers Viscount lands, and there are scenes of the control tower, the terminal facility and workers starting their day. Other planes feature, including a Bristol Britannia. Around the airport, planes are refuelled, the switchboard takes calls, and cargo is handled. There are views of the passenger facilities and of a British Air Ferries Guppy car and passenger transporter being loaded. Workers control the switchboard in flight planning, and a Bristol Brittania is serviced in a hanger. There are further sequences in the control tower. The general operation of the airport is illustrated, pilots and stewardesses prepare for a flight. A BAF Guppy lands and unloads. Luggage is weighed and sorted. Outside the airport, coaches, buses and cars arrive. Passengers wander around the terminal and restaurant. A variety of aeroplanes are on the tarmac, including a BAC1-11 taking off.
