Training film for employees at the first of the nuclear power stations to be built at Sizewell.

The Suffolk countryside and views of the Sizewell nuclear power station: an animated sequence illustrates the various types of radiation and an employee receives medical checks. A new employee receives basic training and the use of safety equipment. The ATLAD meter is explained with a technician measuring luminosity in an enclosed unit. The QFE meter measures radiation on a scale from 0-5. Different parts of the plant are shown including the filter room where a radiation check is taking place. Men in protective clothing work in the pile cap area, others enter a contamination zone to work on spent uranium fuel rods stored in pools, showing how radiation is monitored in the environment. Samples are taken from a forest, a beach and a farm for checking. At the plant, safe working proceedures are explained. An employee, using a breathing apparatus, works on contaminated equipment in a remote control facility. Samples are checked with various meters. In the laundry room, a man checks his clothes with a geiger counter. The worker finishes his task in the contamination room, changes his clothes, has a body check, has a shower and finally puts his hands into a monitor which gives a negative reading.
