BBC East documentary profiling the village of Exning, Suffolk.

The film opens with shots of the centre of Exning, showing the market cross. Jean Goodman explains that during a time of plague, the market was moved to the heath, founding the 'Newmarket.' Horses walk though the village and return to one of the six stables. They parade in the ring inside the stables watched by Jack ? At the Red House Stud ? Taylor explains that the horses need to be walked 3 1/2 miles a day for exercise. There are shots of horses exercising. There are also shots of Mr. Walmer and of Mr. Dixon, the former owner of Exning Hall. This is now an old people's home. There are shots of the exterior and of the Matron, Mrs. Houseman. Elderly people walk on the lawns. There are bungalows built in the garden. Mr. Dixon walks through these explaining that he would like to see other halls used in this way but their situation doesn't usually allow this. There are further scenes of the village, which has a population of 7,000. There are shots of some of the local shops and the Post Office. Jean Goodman visits St. Martin's Church with the vicar, the Rev. Edmund Edmundson. There is a shot of a heart shrine dating from the 14th century. This is one of the oldest in the country. The final scenes are of a medieval pond where Queen Etheldreda was baptised.
