Newsreel footage depicting men on bicycles who went round the countryside to try to persuade men not to work during the 1923 farm strike.

Newsreel story showing work continuing on the land during the strike, despite the efforts of the mobile pickets. Cycling pickets set off watched by women and children standing outside their houses. A farm labourer moves a team of horses across a field. Two teams of horses are followed down a road by cyclists. A man unloading muck from a wagon jumps down as a horse pulls it forward.

Background Information

The strike, begun in March, ended in April 1923. A 50 hour week was set, with wages fixed at 25 shillings per week. This was only 3 old pennies more than they were previously paid for a 54 hour week.
