1961 , Lowestoft (Suffolk)

A promotional film for Waveney canned foods processed at the CWS (Co-Operative Wholesale Society) canning factory in Lowestoft.

Most of the production line work is performed by women, particularly the preparation, grading and checking of the vegetables. The mechanised processes include the harvesting of peas, the canning of food in hydrostatic cookers, the filling of meat paste pots by machine. Research and development for new recipes is shown. Cheese triangles formed in moulds are wrapped in foil. The foods are labelled and packaged the distributed by Co-Op lorry. The film ends with a display of Waveney canned products.
