A documentary, with some tinted scenes, detailing trawl fishing methods off the East Anglian coast in the early twentieth century.

A steam trawler leaves Lowestoft harbour for a nine-day sea trip. The otter boards (wooden boards weighted to float on their edge in the water) and net are shot and the towing ropes adjusted. After trawling, the nets are hauled in by steam winch; the cod end is hauled aboard and emptied. The net is repeatedly reshot and the crew sort the catch. They gut and wash the fish. A crew member stands by the mast. Some tinted scenes of sea, sunset and boats follow. All the gear is stowed and there is a distant view of a light vessel. The catch is unloaded and sorted on the dock. Other trawlers come into harbour. A final view is from a trawler's deck at sea.
