A local record, filmed over two decades, of events and sites around Ipswich
The compilation is made up as follows; 1963. Trolley buses in their last year of operation and views of Fore Street and the station. 1966: Building of the new underground carpark in Guardian Royal Exchange building and Ipswich Civic Centre. Streets and buildings, including a man checking a gas lamp. The facade of the Ipswich Permanent Building Society is partly demolished. In Carr Street, the old East Anglian Daily Times building is visible. 1969. A trip down the River Orwell with the Ipswich Society aboard the 'Torbay Prince'. There is shipping on the river and by Cliff Quay. 1970. Archaeological dig in Star Lane. Mrs Owles stands on the left with her dog in a bag. 1973. A football match at Portman Road. Ipswich are probably playing Blackpool. Two sequences of the Ipswich Society and volunteers at work on different projects. At Ipswich airport there is a Suckling Dornier in 1988, a Bristol airliner in 1961 and finally, a Ransomes sales manager getting into a chatered Rapide in 1953. 1978/1979. The Wolsey Theatre under construction and the demolition of the Tower ramparts. Don Chipperfield boards up the windows of St Lawrence Church. There are views of the Ancient House. 1979. Street scenes, including pedestrians in the town centre. 1981. The Orwell Bridge under construction. 1982. The doubling of the Stoke Bridge. Tall Ships at anchor in the dock. The start of pedestrianisation in the Cornhill. c.1984. The Ipswich Society's visit to the Crown Pools bathing centre 1984. The Ipswich Society visits Cliff Quay Power Station. 1986. Scenes around the town.
