A humorous recruiting film highlighting the activities of the Ipswich Film Society.

A recruiting film highlighting the activities of the Ipswich Film Society, one of the longest established film societies in the country. Made during the society's 21st year, it begins by detailing the types of films watched along with the jocular reactions of the audience, and introduces key members of the society including the Secretary, Treasurer and Projectionist. A comic re-creation of the society's inaugural meeting follows, complete with false beards, period costume and 'ancient' film viewing contraptions including a zoetrope and kinetoscope. Also shown are the 'many places' where the film society meets, including the Ipswich Museum, the Oriental Cafe on Westgate Street, a junkyard and a park bench. Everyday 'members' of the society are introduced, along with their unorthodox viewing methods, including binoculars, telescopes and a periscope. The society's Study Group and 'interesting' lectures are also highlighted, as well as a brief glimpse of some the films they have shown. The film ends with a plea to join the society for 'intelligent and adult films'.
