A newsreel item featuring the British actress, Anna Neagle at the opening of the Ritz Cinema in Ipswich.
Guests and dignitaries arrive in the foyer of the Ritz cinema, Ipswich on January 4th, 1937: there are shots of the public and cinema staff, some of the shots have sound. The Mayor welcomes guests and some are recorded by a large microphone held by one of the cinema staff. Anna Neagle arrives for the official opening. The film shown that evening was 'The Three Maxims'. It was directed by her husband, Herbert Wilcox, who may be the person accompanying her at the cinema.
