A variety of local events and other scenes filmed by Thomas Bernard, of Harwich.

A sequence of 1930s films shot by Thomas Bernard of Bernard's Naval Outfitters, Harwich, compiled in 1985 by David Cleveland who added the music and the commentary with Thomas Bernard's son, also Thomas Bernard, talking about his father's films. Soldiers march through the town and are inspected on the quay by the mayor. A car is loaded onto a ship by crane, followed by shots of a steam train in Canada. There is the presentation of a cup at Harwich football ground to the home team and the traditional ceremony of throwing kitchels (small sweet buns) into the crowd outside the guildhall on Church Street. In 1934, a scout and guide rally takes place on Barrack field and the 1935 carnival features fun sports competitions. J-class yachts are in the harbour and model yachts on the boating pond; a flying boat lands in the harbour. Next, the cruise ship Vienna and a four-masted square rigged sailing vessel: on board, Bernard's son, Thomas, as a small boy. Finally, a mounted hunt assembled in a road, a coach, rough seas by the Dovercourt Bay lighthouse, and Dovercourt streets in winter.
