A Bury St. Edmunds Pageant marking the anniversary of the martyrdom of St Edmund.
Marking the 1100th anniversary of the martyrdom of St Edmund, this filmed version of the Bury St Edmunds Pageant in 1970 dramatises scenes from the life and times of the King of East Anglia whom, in death, would become St Edmund the Martyr. Beginning with King Arthur's dream which forsees Edmund's violent death, the pageant traces Edmund's life from his installment as heir and investment as King of East Anglia from King Arthur's deathbed, the arrival of a Royal Danish interloper and the granting of land to Edmund. Cast out after killing the Danish King, Edmund's falconer and chief huntsman heads to Denmark, where he accuses Edmund of the act, agitating the Royal court. Launching a vengeful assault, the Danes ransack East Anglia, capturing Edmund. Refusing to denounce his God, Edmund is martyred at the hands of Danish archers.
