The opening of the new Braintree Town Hall by the Earl of Crawford and Dalcarres.
The opening scenes show the new Town Hall. The streets are decorated with flags and the townsfolk mill around outside. The crowd seated with a Guard of Honour present. There is a shot of a man with an eye patch, possibly Mr Courtauld. The officlal party on the platform. Speeches and the opening ceremony performed by the Earl of Crawford and Dalcarres. The official party on the town hold balcony; a flag is raised. The gold casket is presented to Mr Courtauld by the people of the town. The following scenes of a children's playground and children's sports. The final shot is of the Palace Cinema, decorated with flags.

Background Information
A local newsreel, probably shown at the Palace Cinema in Braintree. The new town hall used a different panelling in every room. The Palace Cinema was built on Fairfield Road before World War I. It was enlarged during the 1920s to counter competition from the new Central Cinema on the High Street.
