Promotional film reviewing the natural gas industry off the East Anglian coast from the 1960s to 1979.

Beginning with aerial views looking inland, a helicopter lands at the Bacton site. A variety of scenes around the facility include personnel, telemetry equipment, and the storage tanks. Gas sounds in the pipes. The commentary explains that natural gas now provides 20% of energy requirements, and comparisons are made with previous power stations. The Bacton plant is owned jointly by Shell and ESSO. The film explains the pattern of exploration of natural gas in the North Sea, from the first discovery near Groningen in Northern Holland in 1959. A map shows different areas of exploration in the North Sea. Rigs are under construction and in operation. Bacton is home to an industrially complex relationship between rural landscape and economy. Phase 1 installation work took place in 1967 and 1968. An animated plan shows how the drilling and production platforms are linked. There are views of the British Gas Corporation Receiving Centre across the road from the terminal. The Shell UK Exploration and Production Southern Operations Base themselves at Lowestoft increasing trade for the port and for the town. Local trades have adapted to the gas industry's needs. AKO Engineering Ltd began supplying welders for the platform and developed into steel fabrication. SIP Sea and Land Pipe Lines (Production) Ltd of Lowestoft began supplying semi-skilled labour, developed steel fabrication work and have since specialised in building accommodation blocks for the gas fields. Fishing boats and views of the town centre in Great Yarmouth. Men board a helicopter to fly out for their week at work on the gas field.
