The village of Salcott-cum-Virley
The film opens with shots of the marshes and of Virley Creek at Salcott-cum-Virley. There are wintry shots of the village and of the village sign. A man with a local voice explains some of the smuggling stories and there is a shot of his cottage that was linked with the trade. Jean Goodman finds a ruin of a 13th century Church, demolished by an earthquake in 1884. There is a shot of Virley Hall and shots of Salcott-cum-Virley Church. Eustace King shows a map to the camera and explains the route taken by the smugglers' boats along Virley creek. He shows the camera some of the haunts of the smugglers. These include a pond where contraband was hidden. The pond had a wooden bottom and could be drained to recover the goods. Over shots of the village, the man muses on the possibility that smuggling continues. The film ends with further shots of the village and of Virley Creek
