Great Yarmouth herring drifters returning to harbour and unloading their catch.
The film begins with a long shot out to sea, showing the herring steam drifters returning to Great Yarmouth harbour. Closer shots film them entering the harbour and steaming up the river. The registration letters show the predominance ofqthe Scottish boats; Peterhead and Fraserburgh are well represented. At the fish quay they tie up. Many onlookers watch as the catch is unloaded. In the hold, two men fill the 4 cran baskets that are winched ashore. The fish are auctioned by sample on the quay. They are packed into barrels with salt and ice and a cooper places on lids. The barrels are loaded into a cart.
