The 1st Battalion, the Suffolk Regiment, receive the Freedom of the Borough of Sudbury

The Earl of Stradbroke, Lord Lieutenant of the County of Suffolk, inspects the men of the 1st Battalion the Suffolk Regiment, back in Suffolk after three and a half years fighting in Malaya. They are shortly to leave to garrison Trieste. The Lord Lieutenant hands over two silver bugles to the regiment as does the Mayor of Sudbury. In return Brigadier Backhouse, Colonel of the Regiment, presents to the Borough a piece of plate from the officers' mess.The Battalion march through the streets of Sudbury which are lined with cheering crowds. The march past the Mayor and other civic dignitaries, who are on a dais in front of the Town Hall.
