Stansted - The London Option

1980 , Stansted Mountfitchet (Essex)

British Airports Authority sponsored film to promote the use of Stansted Airport.

Conveniently located, Stansted is the nearest airport to London's commercial centre and the industrial heart of England. It offers a range of scheduled and charter services, and serves as one of Britain's leading cargo centres. Presented by Michael Rodd, this promotional film highlights the past and present of Stansted Airport as it developed from a former USAF airfield to become London's third airport. Stansted is a well appointed airport with all the facilities of a major airport without the crowds. A variety of airport users, from businessmen to holidaymakers, consider the airport to be friendly, convenient and efficient, with an ideal location and a high potential for growth. Also interviewed are crew members from the regional airline AirUK, who enjoy operating out of Stansted, which provides easy access and a pleasant passenger experience. The airport was also chosen as the location for the UK arrival of NASA space shuttle Enterprise on its international tour. Although the airport's long-term future is still yet to be decided, it is presented with 'a great deal to offer here and now' and as an option for businesses and individuals 'that simply cannot be overlooked'.
