The 1st Norwich Sea Scouts represent the International Scout Jamboree in Poland, 1932.

The film starts by reproducing the letter asking the 1st Norwich Sea Scouts to represent Great Britain in the International Sea Scout Jamboree in Poland. The Scout master discusses the invitation with the rest of the group and they agree to prepare for the event. They study a map of Europe to check their route. The next sequence shows the Sea Scouts at their Headquarters on Wroxham Broad. After shots of the broad and a pleasure wherry, the Scouts prepare dinghies for sailing. They undergo flag drill, sail repairing and rope splicing. The Scouts train with canoes and kayaks and then pose for the camera. For swimming practice they swim a 3/4 mile course in the River Bure. The next theme shows several different forms of signalling. Morse flag, semaphore, international code flags and morse lamp. Between them, these demonstrations spell out 'England expects every Scout to do his best in Poland'. The Troop departs from Norwich Station and then we see them marching into Gilwell Park (Scout Headquarters) to camp. They board a train at Victoria Station and then embark at Dover. The final shots are of the Scouts on board and looking back towards the White Cliffs of Dover.

The Invitation. I am writing to ask whether you would consider taking your troop out to the International Sea Scout Jamboree in Poland as representatives of Great Britain. You will notice that a good many of the competitions will take place on a lake and I think that your Troop, accustomed as they are to the Broads, will be able to represent us quite admirably. Yours Very Sincerely LEONARD SPILLER, Assistant H.Q. Commissioner for Sea Scouts. Immediately after receiving the invitation a consultation was held by the Sea Scouts to decide whether it was possible to accept. The result was a unanimous 'Yes'. The journey had to be made across the continent via Brussels, Cologne and Berlin. Here you see the route. A strenuous period of training began at once. The Troop's Sea Scout Headquarters on Wroxham Broad became the scene of great activity. Signalling, sailing, Kayac management, boat-pulling, life-saving, swimming and diving and many other items of sea Scout work had to be brought up to competition standard. 1st Norwich Sea Scouts H.Q., Wroxham.
