The life cycle of the butterfly.

Close-up shots of caterpillars climbing over stems and eating their way through leaves. Not all of these sequences look as though they were shot in the butterfly's natural habitat. Some caterpillars are green; some have alarming white spots on black bands around their bodies; some have a black and white pattern across their backs. The film explains the life cycle of the butterfly and shows eggs on a leaf and then a still of an egg magnified to show its construction. Some chrysalises of small tortoiseshell butterflies are filmed and the butterflies are seen emerging from them. A butterfly is filmed in close-up. The last sequences show the Queen of the Broads, the Swallowtail Butterfly. The chrysalis is shown flowed by many beautiful close-up shots of the Broadland butterfly, most of which were filmed with the butterfly sitting on roses.
