The Silver Jubilee visit of Her Majesty The Queen to Ipswich and Felixstowe

The film opens with aerial view of Suffolk and Ipswich. There are views of the crowd on Cornhill, outside Ipswich town Hall, waiting for the arrival of Her Majesty. The buildings of Cornhill are decorated with flags. The crowds are entertained by Morris Dancers and by the Stowmarket Schools' Concert Band. The soundtrack over these scenes is a vox pop on the Royal Family carried out by Radio Orwell. At Ipswich Airport, the Suffolk Military Band plays on the roundabout outside waiting for the arrival of Her Majesty The Queen, who arrives by aeroplane. She is met by the Lord Lieutenant of Suffolk and reviews a guard of the Suffolk and Norfolk Yeomanry Royal Artillery Reserves. Her Majesty and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh drive through Ipswich amidst cheering crowds. They arrive at the Town Hall where they meet the Mayor and Mayoress of Ipswich. They are greeted by a fanfare from the Stowmarket Schools' Band. In the Town Hall the Queen is presented with a gift of an engraved glass bowl, made by members of the Suffolk Craft Society. The following sequence shows scenes of the manufacture of the bowl. The engraving was carried out by Sheila Elmhurst. The silversmith was John Grenville and the presentation wooden box was made by Donald Simpson. The completed bowl is shown to the camera. In the Corn Exchange Her Majesty attends the first performance of 'Welcome Ode,' written for the occasion by Benjamin Britten. This is performed by the Suffolk Schools Orchestra and the Jubilee Choir. There is a shot of the presentation manuscript. The Queen visits an exhibition of Suffolk enterprise looking at the Suffolk economy and Suffolk industries. There is a display of products manufactured in the county. Her Majesty unveils a plaque in the Corn Exchange before driving through the crowds in an open topped car to another exhibition. This section shows Her Majesty at St. Clement's Hospital where she attends an exhibition of education, health and welfare. She is greeted by the Chairman of Suffolk Area Health Authority and the Chairman of Suffolk community Council The Coppleston School band play. The final sequence shows Her Majesty's arrival at Felixstowe docks to board the Royal Yacht 'Britannia.' She is greeted by the President and Chairman of the Felixstowe Dock Company. There are shots of the port and then the Royal yacht leaves, escorted by a myriad of small boats.
