A series of middle distant shots showing a pair of marsh harriers in flight over the reed marshes at Horsey. In some shots one can see Horsey Mill lying derelict in the background. There are also shots of the reed marsh.

Background Information

Anthony Buxton owned Horsey Mere. His son John Buxton also made films and some of these are held by the Archive. In 1946 Anthony Buxton published a book entitled Fisherman Naturalist.The object of photography, at any rate with a cine camera, is ... normal Action.The position of the Marsh Harrier ... as a breeding species on the Broads is far from secure, and for that reason it is regarded at Horsey with a veneration which its rascally appearance hardly merits.Any attempt to photograph ... marsh harriers at close range without long, slow, careful preparation is ... certain to end in disaster. In no instance have I secured a single photograph without six weeks preliminary work... (Anthony Buxton, Fisherman Naturalist. Published by Collins, 1946). The Archive has several films before and after this date that show Horsey Mill in working condition. It was ruined when it was struck by lightening in 1943. It was bought by the National Trust in 1948 and was later restored.
