Harlow New Town

The film opens with the theme of transport to Harlow. There are shots of the A11 trunk road showing the traffic. At Harlow railway station a diesel train leaves and there is an external shot of the station. Helicopters land at the heliport and passengers disembark.In a sequence showing the continued construction of Harlow: First Avenue, Second Avenue, Third Avenue, Fourth Avenue and Fifth Avenue are show. Some have as yet little building evident. In the town centre the film shows The High and Stone Cross Market. Large car parks and extensive flower beds are shown and then some of the buildings surrounding The High. There are extensive aerial shots of Harlow before the film shows the Templefields and Pinnacles Industrial Estates. Also featured are the separate cycle paths around Harlow.The different residential styles of Harlow are illustrated in shots of Mark Hall North, Mark Hall South, Netteswell and Little Parndon. These shots show houses with gardens developing well. There are also statues in public places. Art in the community was a feature of Harlow New Town. In Netteswell footage of the Garden Tiger Public house and Netteswell County Secondary School and in Little Parndon footage of Harlow hospital and Little Parndon County Primary School. The sequence entitled Neighbourhood Centres shows the neighbourhood shopping centre at Bush Fair, the Tye Green Community Centre, the Addison House Medical Centre and the Harlow Sports Centre. Here children's races are taking part on the track. The town park and river are shown along with the swimming pool, still under construction. Children on horses illustrate the town's series of bridal paths. After the caption Scout Day boys engage in Scouting activities re-enacting scenes from the wild west and other soldier scenes. A sign introduces the Harlow Carnival in 1961. Concludes by showing some of the floats involved.
