The visit of HM The Queen and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh to Harlow 30 October 1957.
An amateur film showing scenes from the same Royal visit recorded in the Archive's film Harlow, Essex, 1957, Mark Hall School. A military band and a detachment of soldiers parade. There are several shots of the crowd and a shot of the Duke of Edinburgh. HM The Queen inspects the guard of honour. The Royal party leave Mark Hall School. There follow general shots of a new industrial estate, showing an official party and groups of bystanders. The Royal cars arrive. Apparently the Queen was to open Elizabeth Way. We see the sign but not the opening. Her Majesty arrives at the shopping centre in The High and embarks upon a walkabout with the Duke. The film ends with sequences taken around Harlow from a moving car. These show the site of the future swimming pool, shots of the retail and industrial areas and of areas still under construction.
