Clacton-on-Sea c.1951, filmed for an amateur film production of H.G. Wells' novel `War of the Worlds'.
These shots of Clacton-on-Sea were taken for an amateur film production of H.G. Wells' novel, `War Of The Worlds'. Most are overhead shots. They begin showing Clacton pier and the front. The camera pans over the rooftops. There are beach scenes showing a pleasure boat at the wharf. A sequence shows the streets of Clacton in the town centre and shops. The people of Clacton go about their everyday business. There are scenes from a Council meeting. Inside a public house, two men talk over a pint of beer. A barber shaves a customer and people take books out of the public library. This is followed by another pub scene with the landlord pulling a pint. The film shows a fictitious scene of a young man using a public telephone box to call the fire brigade. There is a shot of the switchboard operators before the firemen slide down the pole and get into their fire engines and driving the tenders and the station officer's car out of the station. The last shots of the film are of a bus leaving the bus station and of people hanging around.
