The first meeting of the 1st East Anglian Balloon Meet at Shrubland Park, Barham, Suffolk.

The film opens at Felixstowe. A lorry belonging to N. De Groot International leaves the North Sea Ferry. It is met by Brian Ribbons, the UK Director of De Groot. The driver collects travel papers. There are shots of Mr. Ribbons in his office and in the trailer park before the film shows how he relaxes. At home Mr. Ribbons, in casual clothes, loads a specially converted De Groot land rover with his hot air ballooning gear and leaves for the 1st East Anglian Balloon meet at Shrubland Park. At Shrubland Park we see the camp site where the competitors stay in tents and touring caravans. One competitor, Per Anderson, has come from Sweden. The film shows the competitors unloading equipment and the general activity of preparing the balloons for flight. The competitors fill their gas bottles that are weighed carefully and attend a briefing meeting in a De Groot trailer. Ribbon's balloon, 'Contrary Mary,' is prepared for a test flight while it remains tethered to an oak tree. Later that evening, as the wind drops, the balloons are prepared for flight. The balloonists include Phil Hutchins, Bob Howells and Mike Betts with 'Boadicea', sponsored by the University Of East Anglia. Aerial shots show the hot air balloons in flight and shots from the balloons over the countryside. These shots show Shrubland Hall, farms, villages and housing estates. Pick up vehicles follow the balloons in the lanes below. The commentary explains that the balloonists avoid increasing power when near animals. The balloons touch down, are deflated and the equipment packed away. Brian Ribbons makes peace with the farmer in whose field he has landed. The farmer signs to verify his place of landing. The pick up van heads back to Shrubland Park. Nick De Groot presents the prizes to the winners. Finally the truck leaves Shrubland Park.
