Cat no. 491
Wheat production in East Anglia.
A Massey Harris tanker combine harvesting a field of wheat. The harvester stands in the field and a farm worker points out the parts of the machine as they are mentioned by the commentary. He then climbs onto the combine harvester and demonstrates the machine in action. The commentary explains the various processes over general shots of the combine in the field. The bulk grain is transferred to a converted tumbrill pulled by a Ferguson tractor. At the farm a lorry carrying sacks of grain tips its load into the mechanical dryer. Back in the field a wire bailer is seen in action in the field. Two of the operators of this are women.
