The commentary describes the general area over shots of the area and a map. It explains the history of Orfordness and how it separates the Rivers Alde and Orde from the sea. Leslie Gillham arrives with a Bolex Cine Camera and sets up, ready to film. The appearance of Mr. Gillham in the process of filming is a recurrent feature of the film, intercut throughout. The Alde is filmed at Aldeburgh, showing the sea wall, built after the floods of 1953. (The commentary says 1952), There is a lengthy shot showing a sailing dinghy sailing on the Alde on a summer's day. At Orford, the boatyard and river are filmed. A man scythes grass outside a row of cottages. The town and castle are shown, whilst the commentary explains the history of the town. Mr. Gillham enters Orford Castle with the custodian, Mr. Haycock. The camera pans over the town and river whilst the commentary describes the area. At ground level, the marsh plants and flowers are filmed in close-up followed by a colony of caterpillars. The commentary gives details about the flowers and bird life and there is film of sandpipers, although shot from a fair distance. The film moves down the river from Orford, ending at North Weir Point where the river joins the North Sea.
