A controlled explosion and the fire in White Lion Street.
The film opens with a shell lying in a wood. There is a controlled explosion. After this 'practice' we see the fire in White Lion Street and Back of the Inns. There are shots of firemen at work in the burnt out buildings, hosing down the smouldering rubble. This was a fire and not the result of enemy action.
