An annual ceremony, performed by the incoming Mayor, in which kitchels (small buns) are distributed to local children.

The inaugural ceremony of the Mayors of Harwich when small buns, Kitchels, are distributed to local children. The first shot shows a ferry in the harbour. This is followed by the Mayoral procession to the Church. The Mayor is filmed inside the Old Town Hall, on the Quay at Harwich. He makes a speech and then presents the Mayoress, Peggy Simmonds, with her chain of office. Out on the balcony of the Town Hall, the party, including the Town Clerk, Mr. Tom Moonlight, throw the kitchels to the crowd below. There are close up shots of children eating and also shots of one being fed to a dog.
