Holiday scenes at Clacton
This film begins with aerial shots of the sea front and then scenes of the principle streets. There are views of the gardens on the sea front with close up shots of the tulips for which Clacton is famous. At the beach there are shots of a helicopter with Evening Standard on it, flying overhead. The crowded beaches are shown. Holiday makers swim, paddle sunbathe and build sand castles and ride in boats. There are rowing boats on the beach at the tide line and a pleasure boat moored by a jetty in the distance. The next sequence features many typical seaside holiday amusements including donkey rides, a Punch and Judy Show, a helter-skelter and the Big Dipper. Other amusements and fairground scenes include a model boating lake and a small scale railway. At the swimming pool there are shots of swimming and diving as well as of a beauty contest. There are shots of tennis, advertised as an exhibition by Davies Cup and Wimbledon players. Cricket features. The poster advertises Essex County Cricket Club against both Gloucestershire and Warwickshire. It is not clear which county they are playing in the film. There are shots from the Clacton-on-Sea Golf Club, intercut with scenes from a bowls match. There is a long carnival sequence showing the carnival Queen being crowned and then the floats passing through the streets. There follow scenes of show jumping and of other horse events based in the arena. There are further scenes of the streets and of the flower beds, this time showing roses. The final sequence shows the steamer Queen of the Channel at the end of the pier and then leaving, steaming through the sea.
