Promotional film for the holiday resorts of Great Yarmouth and Gorleston-on-Sea.
Aerial shots of the beach. At ground level, there are shots of the North Denes and of the Water Gardens. Adults and children alike are shown enjoying themselves on the beach, playing beach cricket, building sand castles and sunbathing. There are shots of Marine Parade and the Promenade, showing the gardens. Other attractions highlighted are Joyland, a special play area for small children, the boats on the water ways through the gardens, the North boating Lake and bowls greens. With the Wellington Pier in the background, the car track and roller skating are shown before the film moves into the Town Centre to show the market and shopping facilities. Some of the rows are shown. Originally 145, there were only a few left at the time this film was made. Other town features highlighted are the 12th-century Parish Church of St. Nicholas, fishermen's almshouses and the Tollhouse. There are shots of the North Quay and of the South Quay. Here we see a cargo ship loading timber. The railway line along the South Quay is visible. The pleasure boat Resolute is filmed on the River Yare in Yarmouth, leading to a sequence about the boat trips that are available out to sea and into the Broads. there are sequences from both Wroxham and Oulton Broads. At Gorleston, features include Donkey rides, the outdoor swimming pool, model boating lakes (to keep the boys amused) and putting greens. There are many stills advertising the various entertainment's in Yarmouth. a race meeting features. The comedian Harry Worth is filmed in his dressing room struggling with his make-up. There are interior scenes from an Old Time Music Hall Show at the Gorleston Pavilion. These feature the Chairman, Billy Matchett and include scenes of one of the performers blacked up. The next sequence features many of the entertainment venues, filmed at night and illuminated. These include the Pleasure Beach, the Windmill Theatre, the ABC, the Britannia and Wellington Piers and arcades. The sequence finishes with the Hippodrome circus and features scenes from the acts. These include horses and clowns, Chinese jugglers, trapeze artists and a dog show. The film ends with further views of the beach at Great Yarmouth and Gorleston-on-Sea.
