The production and use of milk.

Shots of a mother feeding her baby from a bottle. This is followed by a series of young animals suckling from their mothers. These include piglets, a lamb and calves. There are close up shots of most of these animals. There are pastoral scenes of the cows being brought back for milking before contrasting scenes in a modern milking parlour. There are interior scenes of the parlour, showing some of the machinery, including the cooling machine. Many of the workers here are women. The churns are loaded onto a lorry and taken to a bottling depot. Here there are scenes showing the inside of the factory and the bottling process. The bottles are filled, capped and crated. The next sequence follows the progress of the milk from the depot to the door step. The bottles are loaded onto a milk float belonging to Alnesbourne Dairies of Ipswich. The milkman makes house to house deliveries in a middle class suburban area. Milk from the Freston Lodge Dairy is delivered to a school. The children receive their milk and drink it through straws. In the Gem Milk Bar in Ipswich, children drink milk and eat ice-cream. The final sequence is filmed in a home. A mother gives her children milk chocolate and pours glasses of milk. She also butters bread and cuts cheese. The little girl goes into the garden to give two very young kittens a saucer of milk.
