Background Information

The Sheringham lifeboat, Manchester Unity of Oddfellows, served between 1961 and 1990. It was a 37 ft Oakley class boat, built at Littlehampton by W. Osborne. The cost of £28,500 was donated by the Manchester Independent Order of Oddfellows after whom the lifeboat was named. Henry Joyful West was the coxswain of the Sheringham lifeboat between 1963 and 1984. He was called Joyful to distinguish him from his predecessor Henry Downtide West.
